Reporting a figure you think is wrong

This is the most useful thing you can write to us about. To make a correction actionable, please include:

• Which calculator and which specific figure.
• What our page shows, and what you believe it should show.
• A link to the official IRS, SSA, or state revenue department publication you are working from.

That last point matters. We only publish figures traceable to a primary government source, so a correction backed by one can be verified and applied straight away. A correction without a source takes much longer to act on, because we have to find the source ourselves before we can change anything.

Suggesting a calculator

Several calculators are listed as in development on the calculators page, mostly waiting on figures we have not been able to confirm. If one of those would be useful to you, saying so helps us prioritise. If you want something not on the list at all, tell us what decision you are trying to make with it — that is usually more useful than the name of the tool.

What we cannot help with

We cannot answer questions about your personal tax situation, tell you what you owe, review a return, or advise on a strategy. Doing so would be tax advice, which this site does not provide — see the disclaimer.

Please do not send us your income figures, Social Security number, tax documents, or account details. We have no need for them and no way to handle them securely. If you need help with your own return, the IRS maintains a directory of credentialed preparers, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programme offers free help to those who qualify.

There is deliberately no contact form on this page. A form would mean collecting and storing what you write on a server, and this site is built so that nothing you type is transmitted anywhere. Using your own email client keeps that promise intact and leaves you in control of what you send. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Response times

Ledgerwise is a small operation. Corrections with a source attached are prioritised above everything else. Other messages are read, but a reply may take a while, and we may not be able to respond to every one.
